In a shocking incident on Sunday night, a mother took her own life after allegedly strangling her four-year-old son amidst persistent family unrest in Arvind Palli, Ward No. 21 of Naihati Municipality.
The deceased, identified as Vishwamitra Adhikari, also known as Priyanka, reportedly faced daily conflicts with her husband, Shubhankar Adhikari, due to his drug addiction. The situation escalated to a tragic turn on Sunday night when Vishwamitra Adhikari purportedly killed her son, Soumik Adhikari, before taking her own life by hanging.
The Naihati police, informed of the incident, promptly reached the scene, recovering the bodies of the mother and child, and subsequently initiating a post-mortem examination. Shubhankar Adhikari, the husband, is now under police interrogation, and local sources indicate a community disturbed by the devastating events.
